Newark and Lisbon Airports, and the First Beer of the Trip
Zoigl Trip - Part 3 of 13
Back in 2020, I told my buddy Billy Ross about the weird Germany brewery hike I had planned and he enthusiastically agreed to join the excursion. And he was still in when it could finally happen in 2023.
Newark and Lisbon Airports (Not about beer, flyover if you wish)
Billy wanted to fly through Portugal, we so ended up flying out of Newark. Getting there from Abington PA was a four seat journey. Relatively easy and drama free, but a trek nonetheless.
Having flown out of Newark before, I knew the food options were limited. Not only limited, but expensive, and surprisingly difficult to give them your money. Despite it being 10 hours since I last ate, I opted out. I didn’t have the energy to deal with it. They should be feeding us something on TAP Air Portugal anyway. And they did.
We had a three hour layover in Lisbon before the connecting flight to Munich. If you have to spend three hours in an airport, the secure area of the Lisbon Airport is a great place to do it.
Billy and I are both very inquisitive people, and together we can figure curious things out. I had noted how great all the food looked and wondered where it came from. With some questions and some exploring, it turns out there is a central market space in the terminal that supplies all the kiosks with fresh food. There indeed was an in-house bakery, sandwich making operation, and more.
First Beer of the Trip
If you want an 8am beer, (and if you’re traveling across multiple time zones 8am is a relative concept), one of the airport bars has Grimbergen Double on tap. That seemed like a great first beer of the trip (and it was). And it was about €6 too. A beer at the Newark Airport would set you back between US$11 and US$15.
All the prices at the Lisbon airport were reasonable. If you can’t get a direct flight to wherever you want to go in Europe, Lisbon is a great place for a layover.
About the Photos
Regarding the first pic, Munich sounds very exotic, even tropical, in Portuguese.
As for the second, I try not to pay much attention to television sets in public places. However, looking at the picture now, I might be noticing something.
Next post in the series: Tuesday in Munich
